Care Guide
Do you repair and wash rugs?
All of our rugs are washed before leaving Morocco. Our rugs are all vintage and may show some small signs of wear. Some may have been repaired and may have small irregularities. We view this as unique character traits that do not compromise the integrity of the piece but are normal for vintage pieces.
How often should I clean my rug?
For good maintenance, we advise you to clean it weekly.
How should I clean my rug?
The most traditional and efficient way to clean your rug is simply to shake it out outdoors and, if possible, to leave it out in the sun for a couple hours. If that is not an option for you, you can vacuum it across the width. This will also help you get rid of the occasional, but normal, shedding.
I've spilled on my rug. What do I do?
Wool naturally repels liquids at first contact so treat it quickly with a dry cloth. To remove a fresh spill or stain, clean it immediately using a non-colored damp clean cloth. Use warm water, be gentle and avoid rubbing. Lift as much as possible and follow up with water and natural soap or rug shampoo if necessary. Do not use a product containing oxy.
My rug started smelling funny. What do I do?
Wool is a natural self-cleaning material. We recommend hanging or laying the rug out in fresh air and sunlight occasionally to help prevent or remove any odor.
Should I professionally clean my rug?
We recommend professional cleaning for your rug every couple of years or if a large or serious stain occurs (red wine, oil, coffee…). Consult a professional rug cleaner and proceed with any such cleaning at a specialized facility and not in your home.
How durable is my rug?
Dirt, rather than high traffic, is what causes the rug to deteriorate. The durability of your rug simply depends on how well you maintain it. Regular cleaning, rotation every 1-2 years to ensure even wear and using a rug pad or rubber mat under thinner or older pieces will make it last for many decades.
